Battlestar Galactica Season 1 Review

First things first, this is NOT the Battlestar Galactica TV series from the late 70s. It is the best sci-fi series to ever be on TV and is arguably the best TV series of the last 5 years, if not longer. It shares some common elements with the original series like the Battlestar Galactica leading a rag tag fleet of ships after the Cylons wipe out the human race. Some familiar character names like Adama, Baltar, Tigh, Apollo, Starbuck and Boomer are present. That is where the significant similarities end though. This series is dark. It deals with the internal struggles the Cylons must deal with as they try to be more "human" and the obvious conflicts the humans must face to survive. |

The acting is good and the writing is excellent. You would think the special effects would be the main focus of the series because it's sci-fi and the original series was not much more than a special effects demo on TV, but it's not. The special effects are well done, but they do not dominate the show. The sets and environments are very well built and look like they could be real. However, the main focus is on the characters and their relationships. This is where the series shines. The characters will grow on you and you will, more than likely, become emotionally invested in their futures. Even the "bad" guys.
If you like shiney robots, epic space battles, twists, turns and some nice cliff hangers, I wholeheartedly suggest you get the Battlestar Galactica Season One DVD set. You will not be disappointed. This Battlestar Galactica Season One DVD set contains the four hour pilot, 13 episodes and some decent bonus features. --Gimpy Knee For more Free Product Reviews, please visit Gimpy Knee Reviews |
